Process Documentation IS SEXY!
In this crazy fast-moving world, companies are trying to stay ahead of the curve with the latest technology. Writing, organizing, and maintaining process documentation keeps companies ahead of the competition. This allows them to be more proactive and less reactive, projecting a better vision of where they are and where they want to be.
Millions may say why it isn’t, but I can think of a few reasons why it is 😏
Time savings + more selling = more 💰🤑📈
Bye bye, role redundancies ✌️
New hires are self-taught 🤓
Creates future growth paths 🤩
Keeps companies ahead of the competition 📊
Companies see up to a “28% higher revenue growth” when they have standardized sales process documention as revealed in a study done by the Harvard Business Review.
Time Savings: Having end-to-end processes written out helps sales and sales support teams understand the process and how their hand-offs can be more collaborative. This allows sales to focus more on selling and less time on figuring out how to execute the transactional operations. In turn, this also helps sales-supporting functions execute those transactions faster and focus more on strategic deals. In 2023, I undertook a comprehensive research initiative, conducting interviews with 30 individuals across diverse roles to explore this topic. The results revealed a compelling trend: individuals reported a minimum time savings of 25% per week attributed to the implementation of structured process documents.
Role Redundancies: As Processology puts it, redundancies are more than just a waste of time and resources - they can slow down progress, hamper innovation, frustrate employees, and even drive away customers. A well-written end-to-end process considers the people performing the roles in the sales lifecycle (i.e., Sales, Marketing, Business Development, Operations, Finance, Revenue, etc.). This allows each role to see and understand their steps in the grand scheme of things while focusing on their specific activities.
Training: An Inc. report expresses that “established processes pave the way for rapid and smooth onboarding”. Providing comprehensive end-to-end process documents during onboarding enables new hires or those transitioning roles to quickly and independently grasp tasks, resulting in time efficiency and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
Future Growth Paths: Standardization, Consistency, and Alignment - Oh, my! Take it from The Harvard Business Review - there was an 18% difference in revenue growth between companies that defined a formal sales process and companies that didn’t. The beauty of writing processes is having a source of truth. This provides a business a baseline to maintain, grow, and monitor (peep that cycle 👀).
All of this comes down to one thing. In this crazy fast-moving world, companies are trying to stay ahead of the curve with the latest technology. Taking action on the above reasons keeps companies ahead of the competition, allowing them to be more proactive and less reactive, giving them a better vision of where they are and where they want to be.
